The decorative column cap is the capital piece that sits at the very top of the column shaft. It provides the transition between the shaft and the ceiling or arch and completes the upper section of the column. It can be produced in Doric, Ionic or Corinthian form and is the main ornamental element that defines the column's character. Indoors it is used in living rooms and transition areas, and outdoors atop entrance and arcade columns. The polyurethane cap is light; it is applied to the shaft and upper surface with construction adhesive and mounted safely at height. The material resists moisture and impact, does not crack, swell or peel, and can be painted; being lighter than plaster, it makes overhead mounting easier.
