above-door arched casing

An above-door arched casing is a polyurethane casing piece that continues in an arch form across the upper section of a door casing. Joining the side jambs, it encloses the doorway within an arched frame, creating an arched transition instead of a flat lintel. It is used at interior and exterior door entrances where a classical arched casing look is wanted. The polyurethane material is light and applies directly with assembly adhesive and screws; it resists moisture and impact, does not crack or swell and can be painted. Because it is mould-cast, the casing cross-section and arch radius repeat identically on every piece. Being lighter than plaster makes high installation easier, and unlike wood it is unaffected by moisture. Polure produces above-door arched casing pieces in radii and cross-sections matched to the side jambs.
