Polyurethane Log Profiles for Ceilings and Walls

Polyurethane log profiles reproduce the surface of a solid timber log in a hollow rigid polyurethane moulding. They are specified where the appearance of exposed timber is wanted without its weight, movement and biological risks. Nine metric sections between 50×50 mm and 255×260 mm are supplied in 3000 mm bars, each with a matching end cap and bracket.

Sections and supply format

All sections share a single 3000 mm bar length, which keeps quantity take-off simple: the running metre requirement is divided by three to obtain the number of bars. Sections are quoted as width × height of the visible profile.

Why specify polyurethane instead of solid timber

A hollow polyurethane log weighs a fraction of a timber beam of the same section, so it is handled by a single installer and adds no static load to the structure. Because it absorbs less than 1% water it does not shrink, crack or twist in unheated or humid rooms, and being inorganic it is not attacked by wood-boring insects or fungi. In renovation this matters twice: the elements are surface-mounted onto existing plaster, so no demolition, dust or structural work is involved.

Fixing sequence on site

Fixing is always chemical and mechanical together. A PU-based mounting adhesive is applied as an uninterrupted bead to the face against the substrate and to every joint; silicone-based adhesive is not used. The part is then cross-screwed at top, middle and bottom with the heads sunk into the material, filled and sanded with 180-220 grit. Cutting requires a fine-tooth hand saw or a mitre saw with 45° mitres at corners. Adhesive cures in about one hour at normal temperature.

End caps, brackets and detailing

The profile is hollow, so every visible cut end receives an end cap of the same section, from 47×53×30 mm up to 300×340×26 mm. Where a log lands on a wall a bracket is used, from 50×52×69 mm up to 263×272×895 mm; it closes the junction and produces the impression of a supported member. Caps and brackets arrive with the same texture and primer as the profile, so the whole assembly takes one paint system.

Finishing and outdoor use

The white factory primer is a technical base for adhesion, not a finish. The wood tone is built on site in two stages: a base colour as topcoat, then a darker patina worked into the moulded grain. For warranty reasons the primer must be the system primer of the topcoat brand. Outdoors — under eaves, entrance features or covered terraces — an elastic, UV-resistant facade paint is required, since an unpainted surface yellows under ultraviolet light.
